Community

Mornings on the beach and evenings on the piazza. Time and space for work, friends, passions, and wellness to flourish. Connection and ease. We invite parents* into a Mediterranean ideal of family life as a social experience defined by conviviality and pleasure.

* Family is not just parents and kids! Adult relatives, grown children, significant others, and professional caregivers are all welcome in this program.

What’s Included

Our community offering has several major components:

  1. Time for you. Outstanding local travel experiences for for adults, designed to meet diverse schedules and interests. All costs, including transportation, are included.

  2. Family vibes. A fun and authentic series of outings for families, combined with resources to help parents and children connect. Again, all costs are included.

  3. Everyday convenience and ease. Read more about the practical support we offer families.

  4. Coworking. A private, 110sm facility with a combination of open plan work stations and screened areas for calls is a homebase for work. In addition, we provide parents with a “starter pack,” including a wifi plan, a battery pack, and a “treasure map” to all the best hotspots on the island with tips for sidequests between meetings.

  5. Accommodations. Families have the option to stay at the Fontana Resort, a convenient and relatively affordable choice, offering a “village” feel.

Grown Up Travel

2 Workshops or Outings per Week

Choose two activities per week from a diverse selection to suit various schedules and interests.

A parent working full-time might pick a yoga class and a gallery visit. In contrast, a parent on vacation might sign up for a day-long boat excursion and an afternoon of olive oil tasting.

In addition to these travel experiences, we invite adults in our program to help us shape the future of The Field School through weekly feedback and brainstorming sessions.

Village-Style Coliving

Our "campus" at the Fontana Resort combines privacy and proximity: a model for family co-living. Workspace, housing, and our classroom are all within a few meters of each other, alongside the beach, a pool, bike paths, an on-site restaurant, a kid's club, and an adventure park. Older children can safely go out on their own. No commutes, no drop-off line, and no need to schedule playdates or sleepovers.

Connecting with Families

Each week, minimum: 1 outing, 1 beach or campfire night, 1 service opportunity

Each session: welcome dinner, private social platform, directory

An evening spent picking olives, an outdoor screening of favorite childhood classics, a local saint day celebration: the summer calendar is full of fun family activities that bring the community together.

Every session at The Field School begins with a welcome dinner at a stunning and historic location. Every week ends with a relaxed beach party or campfire with pizza. Most Saturdays feature a family service opportunity.

Before arrival, families will receive a directory of other participants to help connect names and faces, kids and their adults.

Screen-Free Fun

The Field School of Hvar honors service, nature, and learning. We tend to attract families who share those values, and we are proud that children in our program have chosen to build a culture of good judgement and kindness.

Part of this positive dynamic comes from limiting screens. Parents are often blamed for children's technology use, but it is impossible to restrict access when a child's school or friends rely heavily on devices. Our program for children is very successful in replacing online games and social networks with real world interests and interaction.

For parents who are also interested in taking a break from devices, we will provide an option to be screen-free outside of work hours, with dedicated programming and a handy local flip phone.
