Family

Strategist

in Residence

August 9 - August 23

The Field School of Hvar is a slow travel program on a dramatically beautiful Mediterranean island. We aim to offer a new paradigm for the family vacation, centered on conviviality, ease, and purpose. To that end, we aim to deeply understand the stressors and joys that drive family connectedness. We are looking for an exceptionally thoughtful parenting solutions expert to offer their experience and perspective on our practices and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in one or two calls to understand the scope of what The Field School of Hvar does and offer feedback on planned events and policies.

  • Choose 2-3 questions of special focus such as: “how to support spousal reconnection” or “how to practice sustainability as a family.”

  • Before arriving on Hvar, interview relevant faculty and staff for your inquiries, research relevant studies, and identify comparable programs.

  • Once you arrive on the island, take general notes on The Field School experience as you witness it. Share those observations and brainstorm solutions with the Field School of Hvar director once a week.

  • Write down your findings on each of your focus questions. Suggest practical improvements. Possibly share versions of these essays in social and conventional media channels.

  • Write honestly about your general experience as a Field School of Hvar participant on whatever platforms you usually use to share ideas.

This is not a “family therapist” role or anything similar. It is an advisory contribution to help the Field School of Hvar best understand and serve families as an organization.

Attributes

  • Abundant hands-on experience working with families; a good sense for the practicalities of implementing different ideas.

  • A huge mental file of parenting and child development research, examples of family activities or exercises, and frameworks for understanding diverse family structures and needs.

  • Deep engagement with a community of people who follow your ideas.

We will provide:

  • Outstanding full-time childcare for ages 4-14, with a parent-accompanied, half-day option for younger children. Childless or empty-nest applicants are also entirely welcome.

  • Comfortable, convenient accommodations in a family “village” with a coworking office.

  • A program of family and grown-up social activities.

  • Any necessary transportation.
